JERSEY’S Primary School footballers have missed out on representing the South West of England at Wembley by the skin of their teeth.
The Jersey youngsters won their regional group in Poole at the weekend and progressing to the final they were eventually beaten 2-0 after extra time in the final by Southampton.
The Jersey youngsters’ finishing position was as good as an Island squad has ever done at the annual seven-a-side competition.
Jersey’s Mark Oliver, who coaches the age group along with Rob Cameron, said: ‘The boys were dead on their legs in extra time; it was a great shame because they played an excellent tournament. Rob and I are extremely proud of them all; their attitude and commitment was first class and they acted professionally throughout.’
