AFTER a draw on points, Jersey claimed the Primary Schools’ Cross Country Inter-Insular trophy in Guernsey on Saturday with wins in three out of the four events.
The 2,000m course at Delancey Park, which consisted of steep inclines, narrow paths and tough turns, meant that all of Jersey’s 24 runners were challenged from start to finish with Patrick Cullinane – in the Year 6 boys – the only Jersey competitor to win a race.
The finals results meant that the scores were tied 82 all, but Jersey were presented with the trophy after winning three out of the four events.
Natacha Morgan Pasquali, secretary for Primary School Athletics in Jersey, said it had been a fantastic day of competition on an interesting and challenging course.
