AN independent inquiry set up to look into the death of nurse Elizabeth Rourke will not result in disciplinary action against Health employees.

Health Minister Jim Perchard (pictured) said that it was not within the remit of the inquiry team to take such action.

However, he confirmed that an internal inquiry was being conducted which would look at what had happened on the day that Mrs Rourke died and whether action needed to be taken against individuals.

Mrs Rourke was 49 when she died in 2006 following routine surgery. Dr Dolores Moyano Ontiveros was cleared of her manslaughter in January this year, but several questions about the tragedy remain unanswered.
