A COUPLE who run a skip hire business are fighting to stave off bankruptcy after the States rejected a plea to pay their legal bills yesterday.
Reg and Rita Pinel own Reg’s Skips that moved to premises at Heatherbrae Farm in St John four years ago on the advice of the Planning Department.
However, successful legal action was taken by neighbour Advocate Marc Yates and his wife as a result of nuisance caused by the activities of the skip company.
The legal bill the Pinels have run up in defending their case and appealing against court decisions is approaching £300,000.
Yesterday, the States rejected by 24 votes to 17 a proposal from Senator Ben Shenton to compensate the couple. Four Members abstained.
