CONTROVERSIAL new border controls which could have forced Islanders to show their passport to get into the UK have been overturned following fierce opposition from the States.
The Borders, Citizenship and Immigration Bill would have allowed UK Customs to introduce stringent controls for people travelling from the Crown Dependencies – Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man.
This would include requiring Islanders to prove their nationality before being allowed into the country.
But the House of Lords recently voted to leave out Clause 48 – the part of the bill which would have introduced the changes.
