THE recession is deepening, unemployment is rising and to make matters worse teenagers have been causing trouble in town.

But one youngster has tried to lift the mood among Islanders – by giving away free hugs while dressed as children’s TV superhero Dangermouse.

The unusual stunt was pulled by 16-year-old Stefan Le Marquand, who says he was forced to take drastic action after becoming depressed by seemingly endless bad news stories.

He spent yesterday wandering around town from King Street to West’s Centre and the Market, hugging anyone who dared embrace such an iconic crime-fighting superhero.
