JERSEY retailers are planning to campaign against the next phase of anti-smoking legislation.
The new rules, which are in the final stages of drafting, will prohibit shops from displaying cigarette adverts on their premises.
The Jersey Chamber of Commerce has written to the Health Department and to Chief Minister Terry Le Sueur because of concerns that businesses will lose income.
They say that the impact will be worse because of the current recesssion. Chamber vice-president Ray Shead (pictured) said: ‘The main thing we want to get across is that now is not the time to be doing this – it is crazy.’
