Plémont? The whole site would make an ideal venue for motor sports

From David Price.

I AM writing in response to the JEP’s headline on 8 April ‘States urged to buy Plémont’.

I could not agree more – they should buy it and turn it into a venue of motor sport excellence.

It could have a track for cars, karts, bikes etc and a scrambles course in the centre for bikes and quads.

The straight on the track could host the quarter-mile sprint and corporate entertainment packages. The possibilities are endless. This would allow all the areas currently used – Sorel Point, the Five Mile Road, Egypt etc – to be to returned to nature or put into public use.

The venue would attract enthusiasts and competitors from outside the Island to come and use the facilities, instead of all the competitors in Jersey leaving and spending money abroad.

If a charge was levied, as at all other tracks in the UK and France, the money could be channelled to fund eco-friendly projects, balancing out the carbon footprint effect.

It would also allow enthusiasts to have a safe, controlled area to test special vehicles or to run in race engines without being forced to leave the Island or to use the public roads.

If it was professionally designed and managed, nothing but good would come from this. The area is out of the way and this would have a low impact, as it is already sparsely populated.
