LEARNER drivers should be put through tougher driving tests, according to the head of the Driver and Vehicle Standards Department.
Alan Muir (pictured) was speaking the day before the UK was set to announce changes to the driving test regime in a bid to cut the number of road deaths.
No official details have been published by the Driving Standards Agency, according to Mr Muir, but he admitted that Jersey could make changes to its driving tests.
‘There are a lot of instructors who are teaching people to just pass the test rather than be experienced drivers,’ Mr Muir said. He believes that learner drivers in the Island should be asked to complete a ‘log book system’ with their instructors so that they have experience driving in all conditions.
