The private event started at 7.14 am to mark the very moment, 64 years ago, that the surrender papers were signed and the Occupation ended.
Islanders invited to the breakfast included those who lived in Jersey during the Occupation, those who had been evacuated or deported and those who had escaped to France.
Roland Buerkle, the mayor of German town Bad Wurzach to where many Islanders were deported and interned during the Occupation years, attended the event with his wife, Stephanie.
Chris Addy, the collections manager of the War Tunnels, said that this year’s breakfast was one of the biggest they had held. ‘There were about 170 people there,’ he said. ‘We set up marquees and had a three-piece band performing wartime favourites. The event is now part of the fabric of the War Tunnels and a staple part of Liberation Day.’nextpage
