Gerard Le Feuvre’s Island Home was chosen as Jersey’s first official anthem after a competition at the Opera House last year.

However, the popular version of one of the unsuccessful contenders, Beautiful Jersey, sung by local singer Sadie Rennard, still played an important part – as it does every year – in last weekend’s Liberation Day proceedings.

During questions without notice in the States yesterday, Deputy Jeremy Maçon encouraged the Education Minister James Reed to ‘scrap the dirge’ and replace the anthem with Beautiful Jersey – a request that was met by laughter, feet stamping and cheers of ‘yes’ from a number of States Members.
