Hundreds of pensioners feared being trapped in Jersey after local insurance firms revealed that they would not supply annual insurance to people aged over 89 travelling to the UK.
But Age Concern Enterprises, which handles insurance for Age Concern in the UK, today said that it would provide cover for any Islander of any age.
However, the organisation said that its underwriters were reviewing the ‘level of cover’ it offers following the end of the reciprocal health agreement.
Daphne Minihane, chairman of Age Concern in Jersey, said that it was welcome news to hundreds of concerned pensioners who had been contacting her organisation on a daily basis.
