On Tuesday night, Derek Boswell, John Lowery, Terry Allen and Renouf had looked in trouble, their place in the knockout stage hanging on a thread.
Quite simply, their hopes depended on winning their last three group matches – against Brazil, Guernsey and Portugal. And, to their credit, that’s exactly what they did.
After getting past Brazil and Guernsey on Wednesday, they made an inauspicious start against bottom-of-the-table Portugal, dropping a four on the first end, but a scoring run of six ends saw them take a 13-4 lead after seven ends.
