Mr Norman has spoken up for young people both in his parish and the Island, saying that the vast majority are well behaved and responsible.
His comments come after a report in yesterday’s JEP in which a St Clement Centenier said that stab vests had been ordered for honorary police after a surge in the number of young people carrying knives.
But this morning Mr Norman said that he had ordered the stab vests as part of a routine update of police equipment and that it had nothing to do with rising knife crime. ‘In St Clement we are fortunate enough to be getting new honorary officers, so we need additional equipment,’ he said. ‘It was a renewal of police equipment and nothing to do with knife crime in the parish.
‘It was a routine, planned re-equipping and the stab jackets were purchased as a small part of that re-equipping. It was not in response to any threat.’
