Despite Force 5 to 6 winds Dr Brabants, who won gold and bronze in Beijing, put in a good training session ahead of this year’s Jersey Post Sark to Jersey race in July.
Dr Brabants, who worked for a spell in Jersey’s Accident and Emergency Department before his triumph in Chinga, rowed in a Jersey Rowing Club’s men’s fours, with Simon Haywood in the bow, Dr Carl Clinton behind him and Atlantic oarsman Rob Cassin setting the pace in the stroke seat. The crew were coxed by Roly du Heaume.
Dr Brabants relished the challenge: ‘It was great fun,’ he said. ‘I really enjoyed it, especially when we got out into the waves and it’s made me more motivated to do well and keen to get out and train in a boat back in the UK.’
