DEPUTIES Geoff Southern and Shona Pitman have been called on to resign from the States after being fined a total of £12,000 for breaking the Public Elections Law.

The two Jersey Democratic Alliance members were sentenced in the Royal Court yesterday for illegally helping Islanders to apply for postal votes in St Helier No 2 District in the Deputies’ election in November.

Deputy Southern was fined £10,000 and Deputy Pitman £2,000 after they admitted the charges they faced.

Businessman Rod Bryans, who finished fourth in the three-seat district, has called on the two to step down. He made a complaint to the police while the investigation into the breaches of the election law was under way.
