A member of the Great Britain archery team has been crowned Miss Battle of Flowers 2009.

Beaulieu student Lucy O’Sullivan beat off competition from 11 other girls to take the title at the annual competition on Saturday night.

The 18-year-old is the 57th girl to take the title and will now represent the Island at a number of events, both home and away, over the coming year.

Speaking to the JEP after being announced as the winner, she said: ‘I’m still shaking – I really did not expect this. It’s a big shock and a dream come true. It doesn’t feel real, I feel like I’m dreaming.’

Lucy, whose parents Tony and Judy were in the audience, was runner-up in the Miss St Brelade competition and got into the Miss Battle contest through the open heat.

She has been an archer for six years and has been on the Great Britain team for four. She is the only Islander in the team and also coaches the sport.

She was also successful in an archery competition at the weekend. She was the only Jersey archer to win a class at the Jersey Archery Society’s Jersey Triple competition. The Archers of Jersey member won the Ladies Compound class with a total score of 2,258.
