The Jersey branch of the Parkinson’s Disease Society and Samaritans Jersey have been successfully nominated for the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, which was created seven years ago to mark the Queen’s Golden Jubilee.
A statement issued by the Bailiff’s Chambers today said that Jersey had a long and creditable history of honorary and voluntary organisational help within the community and that this recognition underlined that commitment.
Samaritans director Kate Kirk said that it had been wonderful news to learn that they were to receive the highest honour which voluntary organisations could win.
Parkinson’s Disease Society chairman Eileen Smith said that they had been thrilled to learn that the charity had won the award.
