From Ken Taylor.
HOORAY! At long last two knowledgeable people have pointed out the folly of forging ahead with the second finance ‘city’ (Esplanade one).
I agree entirely with the comments from Senator Perchard and from retired politician Don Filleul. To go ahead with this plan would be the final ‘eggs in one basket’ situation, the death knell for the ailing tourism industry and not only bring much more traffic chaos, but a huge upsurge in the population.
If all these additional office blocks were to be filled, many new companies would be moving in to fill them and our small Island is just not big enough for all this. It will create a top-heavy situation.
The overcrowding is beginning to bite now and it would become much worse when all this construction begins, and all this, assuming Harcourt do a perfect job, with no hiccups.
Moving back a few steps to the old abattoir site, I understand that the completed shops within are standing empty, with no takers and quite understandably, with the recession, this second finance centre could suffer the same fate.
This is very definitely not the time for this project. Why can’t our ministers listen to the public voice?
