This decision was a foregone conclusion

From Chris Clancy.

WELL, it comes as no surprise to hear that charges are not to be pursued against alleged abusers of children at Haut de la Garenne.

It has taken a long time for this foregone conclusion to come into the public domain, but it had been forecast and expected by many who have observed how the Jersey judiciary works.

It is a very sad day for all in Jersey who look to and trust the powers-that-be to administer a fair and just system, with no one being above the law.

Strange how a very experienced and highly regarded policeman, now retired, could submit evidence against alleged abusers thinking that he had built up a convincing case, only to be told that there was not enough evidence to convict.

Was he deluding himself (which I doubt very much), or was he just incompetent (which his impeccable past record proves otherwise).

One has to ask: ‘Where do we go from here?’ How far down can Jersey sink in the mire of seeming injustice?
