Deputy Geoff Southern wanted Members to agree to a separate debate on Jersey’s rising population in six months’ time, but like Deputy Daniel Wimberley last week, who failed to have the population figure frozen, his proposal was defeated.
Deputy Southern pleaded with States Members to act on behalf of Islanders.
But his proposals to remove the 100,000 population cap and the immigration figure of 150 heads of household and replace it with a level set by the States were defeated.
His amendments were voted on together and lost by 20 votes to 28.
