Head waiter Manuel De Nobrega and second chef Marian Birt pulled the unconscious David Cogger from the Highlands Hotel pool on Monday afternoon.
Mr De Nobrega, who completed a first aid course in December, gave the man artificial respiration to start him breathing again.
The 71-year-old tourist, who was released from hospital on Tuesday, is recovering well but does not remember anything from the dramatic rescue or how he got into trouble in the first place.
‘I want to thank them for saving my life,’ Mr Cogger said. ‘It was a shock to wake up in the hospital, but it was probably worse for my wife, Olive. ‘The first thing the doctor said to me was that I had had a lucky escape.’
