Jersey’s footballers have won gold in the NatWest Island Games in Aland.

They beat hosts Aland 2-1 this evening, with goals in each half from Jean-Paul Martyn and Chris Andrews, respectively.

Elsewhere, Jersey’s men’s golf quartet won team bronze, although all missed individual medals.

The opposite was true for the ladies, with no team medal, but individual silver for Olivia Jordan-Higgins.

There was disappointment for Andrew Evans and Kirsten McArthur in the mixed tennis doubles, where they lost 2-0 to a pairing from Menorca.

Jersey’s windsurfing team claimed bronze, but the laser sailing teams were out of the medals.

It leaves Jersey third on the medal table with 23 gold, 34 silver and 15 bronze medals, behind the Isle of Man, in second with 29 gold, and the Faroes, top with 31. Guernsey is in fourth with 19.
