From Michael Lihou.
I AM disgusted with the way Jersey is being run by our States Members and some Jersey companies and builders.
It seems they don’t want to employ local people because they can get cheaper labour from people from outside the Island now we have a set wage in the Island.
These companies know they can employ these people at a cheaper rate because Jersey people won’t work for the set rate. I’ve seen outsiders in the building industry working for the set rate and the work isn’t up to the standard of a qualified person who is asking for a higher wage.
These firms aren’t bothered about standards any more, they just want to get the buildings up or sell their products and forget about it afterwards.
So all I am saying is that, as a Jerseyman who has worked all his life in Jersey, when I retire I will be collecting my pensions and leaving Jersey and taking my pensions with me as I wouldn’t like to give anything back to this Island, especially with the way it is being run.
