Increase in Jersey Marathon prize money

This applies to the first man and first woman home on the 26.2-mile course. Second and third prizes have also been increased to £750 for second (£500 last year) and £500 for third (£250 last year).

Race director Helen Baker said: ‘We decided this year to increase the prize money as a way of demonstrating our commitment to developing the quality of the race. Hopefully this will attract more runners to the Island and lower the finishing times for both the female and male competitions in the main marathon event.’

This is the fourth Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon and a record entry is expected for the marathon, the relay race and the 3km fun run – the latter being sponsored by the Jersey Evening Post.

The event takes place on Sunday 27 September. More information about how to enter can be found at www.jersey-marathon.com.
