‘Iconic’ buildings plan for Wolf’s Caves headland

For years Wolf’s Caves has been a popular destination for tourists and Islanders to walk along the headland and enjoy panoramic views out to sea.

The existing building at Wolf’s Caves was once a popular public house and restaurant before becoming a place of worship for the Abundant Life Church.

If plans are passed, this building will be demolished and replaced with one of two four-bedroom houses. The second house will be built on the present car park. The application comes shortly after the National Trust for Jersey launched a campaign to protect the Island’s coastline.

Mourier Developments, who bought the area in May 2006, plans to donate part of the headland to the National Trust for Jersey so that the public can still have access to it. They also propose to create a woodland area.

Director Adrian Chapman said: ‘It is an extremely sympathetic scheme. We have worked alongside the National Trust to make sure the design does not compromise the coastal campaign.

However, Mike Stentiford, president of the National Trust for Jersey, said that he was ‘uncomfortable’ with plans for two houses when one would be sufficient to replace the existing Wolf’s Caves building.
