And an amendment has been filed to Guernsey’s proposed new competition law to use provisions already in place in Jersey rather than adopt different rules.
Guernsey Deputy David de Lisle has tabled the amendment on proposed rules for mergers and acquisitions to mirror what is already in place here. He believes that there is no real need for the islands to have different laws when so many companies have a presence in both jurisdictions.
Meanwhile, Deputy Phil Rondel believes it would be common sense for the two islands to use their existing regulatory bodies to administer laws. ‘We should be looking at all aspects of cost reduction at this time and this is certainly an area worth close scrutiny to see what could be saved by both islands going along the same path,’ he said.
