The Caesarean Cycling Club rider was pleased with his performance to get victory on the Watersplash circuit and although he has his sights set on Commonwealth Games qualification still rates this event as an important one.

He said: ‘This is one of the bigger races of the year and it’s always nice to win local events so I was pleased with my performance. I was on a good day anyway but it was still hard out there.

‘Conditions were fine and the course is one of the better ones we have in Jersey with a challenging climb up to St Peter and then undulations all the way on the descent back to the Five Mile Road.’

Velo Sport Jersey rider Richard Tanguy was second and CCC’s Robin Ovenden, third.

In the veterans’ event Simon Venton (CCC) took first with VSJ riders Mike Mitchinson and Matt Gambles making up the top three.

Team-mate Jo Le Cocq was top female beating fellow VSJ rider Jim Davis into second and Susan Williams in third. Sam Carney (VSJ) won the juniors’ race as he crossed the line 19th overall with Neil Laugeard (VSJ) in second.nextpage
