Martha de Bruxelles (44) is in Jersey with her husband Simon, a former Victoria College student, and three children for a two-week holiday.
But having her shopping bag stolen while she was in Bhs last Thursday has left her so upset that she could not face going to a birthday celebration the same night, despite some of the guests flying in from New York and London. There were some people at the event that she had not seen for four years.
Mrs de Bruxelles, from Wiltshire, who has been to the Island on holiday ten times, said: ‘Jersey is my second-favourite place after going on holiday to my own country, Colombia, and I have always recommended it for the food and the seaside. I always felt that it was the safest place that I could ever be in.
‘But this has really put a dampener on my holiday. It really has left a bad taste in my mouth. The whole experience has been very unpleasant and left me distraught.’
