John Réfault said that he would be sad to see the Living Legend go because it was ‘a tremendous asset’ and that he was concerned that the proposed development would be too dense for the location.
This week Living Legend owners, the Lewis family, announced that they wanted to demolish the tourist attraction to build 65 houses on the 5½-acre rural site. Managing director Chris Lewis said that they had seen a steady drop in visitor numbers over the last decade and were now forced to explore alternative options.
Mr Refault said: ‘The loss of a tremendous asset would be my greatest concern. I also think that whatever replaces it should be in harmony with the area. I think the design is extremely imaginative and worthy of consideration, but it is not appropriate because it is too dense a development for the area.’
