Nick Poole (54) should sail into Gibraltar two months to the day that he set off from Jersey on the eight-week voyage in his 18-foot Drascombe Lugger open boat.
The trip was in memory of his son Ben, who died aged 28 last summer while on a training course to qualify as a member of the elite Special Boat Service.
Mr Poole called the JEP earlier this week from the bay of Cadiz, which is the stop before he heads to Cape Trafalgar where he will pay tribute to his personal hero, Admiral Lord Nelson.
A special ceremony will be held on 29 August in Gibraltar to mark the successful completion of the voyage. Mr Poole and his fellow sailor, James Crill, who has been following in his support boat for the whole trip, will be welcomed by the governor of Gibraltar.
