The 26-year-old will be taking up the reins on 7 September and is hoping to expand the sport on to new horizons.

‘One of the most exciting opportunities I will have is hopefully starting up a mixed netball league next year,’ she said. ‘I have seen just how popular other mixed sports like touch rugby are and how much enjoyment people get from it. I really feel that there is so much potential for mixed netball and even possibly men’s netball in Jersey.

‘But I also hope to learn a lot about netball both in Jersey and the UK and learn what we can do not only to increase participation but also increase the spirit, passion, and enjoyment that individuals will get from playing the sport over here.’

The former Hautlieu student is not the first Nelson to invest their time in the sport as Rena is the daughter of Jersey Netball Association president Jackie Nelson, who had no involvement in the appointment process.
