Forty people took to the fairways at Les Mielles and 65 enjoyed a meal at the club during the evening to raise funds for Holidays for Heroes Jersey, which pays for ex-servicemen and women to have a holiday in the Island.

The charity, officially launched by Islanders Richard and Dawn Woodhouse in August last year, received £1,860 in raffle proceeds and more than a £1,000 in donations from building contractors.

Mr Woodhouse said: ‘We were honoured to be chosen as beneficiaries of the association’s first ever charity golf day. The money will be used to pay for holidays during the 2010 programme.’

The charity has already paid for more than 100 former soldiers, sailors and airmen and their families or carers to enjoy a holiday in the Island.

Anyone who wishes to donate to Holidays for Heroes Jersey can send a cheque made payable to Holidays for Heroes Jersey to Mary Gaiger at Point West, Chemin des Monts, St Ouen, JE3 2GT. Alternatively, visit any Lloyds TSB branch and make a donation, or call 856658 for more information on the charity.
