It is believed that the victim was attacked by another man in Clearview Street after leaving the Dorset Tavern at about 10.30 pm.
A man was arrested soon afterwards and has been charged with grave and criminal assault. He is expected to appear in the Magistrate’s Court today. Following the alleged assault the victim was taken to hospital, where he was treated for his injuries. He was kept in overnight for observation.
After the attack the alleged assailant headed towards Queen’s Road on foot. He was said to have been wearing a striped jumper at the time. Scenes of crime officers from the States police attended the scene.
