Pirates lined up against secret agents and teams in wigs as the sun shone on a glorious September day. In all, 48 teams took part, but by the end of the afternoon just ten were on the starting line for the final.

It quickly became a two-horse race between the fastest two teams in qualifying, Paddlers United and the Collins Stewart Water Polo Team.

After around 1 min 11 secs of raw effort, Paddlers United, who were made up of members from the sea and surf kayak clubs and sponsored by GR Langlois, took the honours by a slim margin.
