Carter reaches first major final

It was the 12th time in 18 years that Mulliner had won the championship.

The two-day event, held at Les Quennevais, was not without moments of high drama, particularly when Sweden’s Simon Carlsson beat Mulliner in the group matches, pushing him down into third place in one of four tables.

The No 1 in the other three groups were Jersey players Carter, James Le Moignan and Tony Le Moignan.

Ultimately, however, experience had its way and although Le Moignan was not expecting to play the reigning European champion in the quarter-finals (first against third) he succumbed, on Saturday afternoon, 2-0 to give Mulliner a semi-final place against John Davis of Luxembourg who, in turn, had knocked out Carlsson in his own quarter-final draw.
