In a strongly worded letter to Environment Minister Freddie Cohen, the trust has called for an end to the era of building on Jersey’s sensitive coast and asked the politician to adopt six major changes to planning strategy.

The Trust released the letter to the JEP as it makes final preparations for the long-awaited A Line in the Sand event Sunday 4 October, which it is hoped will gather thousands of Islanders on the beach at St Ouen’s Bay to voice their support for protecting Jersey’s coastline.

In the letter, Trust president Mike Stentiford says: ‘We sincerely hope that you will agree that the iconic pipe dreams of architects and speculative developers have no role to play in safeguarding the immense natural beauty of our coastline.

‘We hope that we can count on your support in securing its (the coastline’s) permanent protection for our overall quality of life for the permanent benefit of our Island.’
