The leaders of unions that represent teachers, nurses, paramedics, firefighters, civil servants and manual workers among others have organised the gathering on the morning of Tuesday 6 October to support a proposal to be put to the States by Deputy Shona Pitman.

The rally follows a meeting at Fort Regent earlier this month attended by about 1,000 States workers to protest at the pay freeze. The unions and staff associations met last week and have now outlined their intention to keep the pressure up.

They are also to invite all States Members to a meeting so that employees can talk to them about their complaints. That is likely to be held in the Hospital’s Halliwell Theatre, but no date has yet been set.
