Transport Minister Mike Jackson has told the JEP that the buses might be part of the solution to rush-hour traffic problems, and has raised the possibility of their return while talking about the newly-launched consultation for the Sustainable Travel and Transport Policy.
And St Peter Constable John Refault – who worked as a conductor on the double-deckers before they were taken out of service in the winter of 1968 – has enthusiastically backed their return.
‘They would be absolutely ideal, especially on the main routes,’ said Mr Refault.’They used to go all the way from Corbière to Gorey, running through town via Colomberie and Snow Hill.
‘The biggest cost with the buses is staff, and the double-deckers allow you to carry extra passengers with no more staff needed.
