Stower retains Hobie title

FORMER Australian world team member Darren Stower, this year crewed by Matt Atkinson, retained the Hobie 18 Tiger class and Open honours in the Brewin Dolphin Channel Islands Championships last weekend.

Despite David Carter and Simon Le Huray taking the first race of the day in St Aubin’s Bay last Saturday, Stower and Atkinson raced to victory overall by winning the next four races over the two-day event.

Setting a fast pace, flying spinnakers downwind and powering upwind with their generous sail area and long daggerboards, the duo dominated to win the Tiger Trophy and the Open Prize.

Andy Hart and Michael Kinross were also consistent and three second places secured them second overall with Carter and Le Huray coming back from a rig failure in race two to finish third overall.
