Edward Blanchet (66), a popular and experienced fisherman based at Grève de Lecq, disappeared on the afternoon of 22 September while lobster potting near Sorel.
His stricken boat was found on the sea bed just over 24 hours later following a major search involving two lifeboats, the Channel Islands Air Search plane and several leisure and fishing vessels.
Although the official search was called off shortly after the discovery, a number of Mr Blanchet’s friends continued to scour the sea.
The States police yesterday confirmed that a fisherman had found a body close to Sorel on Sunday. Tests were being carried out today to determine the identity of the body.
Just days after Mr Blanchet disappeared more than 200 Islanders gathered on the beach at Grève de Lecq to pay their respects to the pensioner.
