Customs address a new smuggling method

Islanders living in flats are now being warned to be on the look out for mail sent to their buildings addressed to people who do not live there.

Jersey Customs say that over the past year they have spotted a change in the way drugs are being sent to the Island through the post, and as a result Islanders should be wary of people they do not know hanging around areas where mail is left.

While previously smugglers would send drugs to people who they knew, Steve Le Marquand, the director of Customs enforcement, said that many are now targeting flats and lodging houses which have a communal post area.
