Millions of pounds is thought to have been spent on securing the conviction of drugs baron Curtis Warren and his five associates.
Now Senator Ben Shenton wants to know what the total cost to the taxpayer was including the legal aid bills in the case. It is understood that the public purse is going to be raided to fund the drug plotters’ legal aid bills.
Senator Shenton, who is chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, is now considering calling for a review into the free legal aid system.
Warren (46) and his Jersey resident associates John Welsh (43), James O’Brien (45), Jason Woodward (22), Paul Hunt (27) and Oliver Lucas (23) were found guilty by a jury last week of a conspiracy to smuggle £1 million of cannabis into Jersey in 2007.
