The news has ‘thrilled’ St Helier Deputy Jackie Hilton, who has been campaigning on behalf of residents to save the green field near the Channel Television building from development.
This week Senator Cohen rejected plans to build 28 first-time buyer homes, 26 social rented flats and a community hall, after deferring his decision at a ministerial Planning meeting last month. In a letter from the Planning Department to Deputy Hilton, Senator Cohen’s reasons for refusal are explained.
‘The site is identified in the 2002 Island Plan as being subject to policy H3 of the plan. The purpose of that policy was to provide the next tranche of Category A housing sites, which would be assessed and brought forward following public consultation after the policy H2 sites had been exhausted, and subject to there being a continuing need,’ says the letter.
