The Island’s mail arrived as normal on the early-morning plane while items posted to the UK got into the system early enough to beat the effects of today’s industrial action.
Royal Mail workers began two days of strikes at 4 am today, and following a breakdown in talks between unions and management it is now expected that that there will be more strikes next week.
Jersey Post’s general manager of postal services, Andy Jéhan, said that the Island’s mail was put into the national stream at regional level and as a consequence should be delivered across Britain today. However, items which leave the Island this afternoon will not make their destination tomorrow, as the Royal Mail delivery and collection workers will not turn up for work.
Mr Jéhan said: ‘Today’s action would be expected to significantly affect the volume of mail we receive tomorrow morning. However, the mail plane will operate despite the anticipated lower volumes.’
