From Nick Palmer.
ONCE again, those in our government (and their expensive advisers) fail to demonstrate ‘joined up thinking’.
While often mentioning it, they rarely seem to do it. Indeed, mostly they seem to happily shy away from doing it, instead choosing to remain in their complacent, blinkered boxes while projecting a self-satisfied air of competent decision making.
Unfortunately, this constant display of faux-statesmanship appears to have reassured too many of the general public, who keep voting for them, that somehow we have safe hands at the wheel. We do not. In the JEP of 17 November we have an illustration of this where, separated by only eight thin sheets of paper, we have two articles which form smoking gun evidence of the above.
The Planning Application Panel’s unanimous decision to permit the building of 33 houses by demolishing existing greenhouses in St Mary should be carefully contrasted with the article titled ‘Are we ready for the food crunch?’ Obviously, Planning are not ready – yea, they seem to be completely oblivious of it.
I could explain at length the astonishing absurdity of the Planning Panel’s decision, but I won’t. I leave it as an exercise for your readers. If they don’t instantly realise the perversity of this decision, then they just might not understand the situation that the whole world, including Jersey, faces.
If they do realise, then why are they just sitting back without speaking up, as if the whole situation is somebody else’s problem.
