Figures released today by the Health department reveal that 85 per cent of primary pupils and 83 per cent of nursery children have had the jab.
The immunisation programme is continuing at secondary schools, where 75 per cent of students have now been vaccinated. This week children aged between six months and five years who are not at nursery and youngsters who were absent from school when their classmates were immunised are being invited in for jabs.
The Medical Officer of Health, Dr Rosemary Geller, confirmed today that a total of 242 new swine flu cases were confirmed last week – double the number recorded the week before. Of the cases last week, 90 per cent affected school or nursery children.
