The Jersey Heritage portrait of Colin Powell was revealed by Joe Moynihan, the president of the Jersey Bankers Association.
Jersey artist Jason Butler painted the portrait, which he started working on in May. Mr Powell is the latest Island figure to be honoured as the subject of the annual Heritage portrait. Previous subjects have included environmentalist Mike Stentiford, former teacher Bob Le Sueur, Occupation historian Michael Ginns, former Constable Iris Le Feuvre, community worker Daphne Minihane, former trade union leader René Liron and former entertainer Teddy Noel.
Mr Powell, who is the chairman of the Jersey Child Care Trust and was made a CBE in 2005, said that he was ‘tremendously honoured’ and ‘very surprised’ to be asked to be the subject of the Heritage portrait.
