Hampshire progress for Banks

Both sides had shown good form prior to the match at Les Quennevais on Sunday afternoon, but with a strong wind blowing across the field it was Banks who took the initiative and with it a 21-0 half time lead.

A high tackle from Shark’s Jim Milner on winger Ben De Figueiredo was punished twice, with the award of a penalty try being followed by ten minutes in the sin bin. Jimmy McCormack kicked the conversion to give Banks a 7-0 lead.

Banks made use of the one-man advantage and, following good work by captain Russel Holland, three-quarter Richard Dawson scored in the left corner.

McCormack again added the two points for the coversion, but Sharks hit back hard with forward pressure gaining five consecutive penalties, though they remained inactive on the scoreboard. The last award came closest, Roy Lievre crossing the Banks’ line following a scrum, but the referee ruled the ball held up by a desperate defenders.
