The Stroke of Midnight Appeal is being organised by the charity’s Jersey branch to raise both funds and awareness of their work helping stroke sufferers and their families.
Branch chairman John Boothman said that that the association was counting on people’s kindness to make it a success. ‘The Stroke Association is doing everything in its power to reduce the threat of stroke and to repair the damage it causes,’ he said. ‘While we work closely with the health services in Jersey, we receive no States funding and are therefore entirely dependent on the generosity of individuals and organisations.’
The appeal organisers will be writing to more than 2,500 companies in Jersey asking for employees to pledge the final hour’s salary of 2009. They hope to raise as much as £50,000, which would be enough to cover their running costs for a year.
